Impact of Fashion
Over 2 Billion Tonnes
Fashion industry releases over 2 billion tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions every year, equivalent to 4% of all global emissions. If our efforts to reduce fashion industry's impact on the planet remain inactive, emissions are predicted to reach 2.7 billion tonnes a year by 2030.
Tannery industry is listed as one of the worst polluting practices on the planet due to a wide range of toxic chemicals applied during the conversion of raw animal hide into leather, causing the release of toxic chemicals into the environment and water sources.
85% of all textiles end up in landfills each year.
That accounts for nearly 5% of all landfills. Fabrics with synthetic fibres such as nylon, polyester and acrylic take more than half a millennium to decompose.
Every year, over half a million tons of plastic microfibers are dumped into the ocean, the equivalent of 50 billion plastic bottles. Overall, toxic fashion contributes to 35% or 190,000 tons per year of ocean microplastic pollution.
Pollution causes serious long-term health effects on all communities including chronic asthma, pulmonary insufficiency, and cardiovascular diseases.

This forest takes up more space than the Central Park in NYC and it is now a lush oasis, home to a large diversity of native and migratory species.
